- Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of the 9th President, William Henry Harrison.
- He served as a brigadier general for the Union during the Civil War.
- Elected as Republican President over Grover Cleveland.
- Harrison passed legislation including the McKinley Tariff which imposed historic protective trade rates.
- The Sherman Antitrust Act was also passed.
- President Harrison crated the National Forests through an amendment to the Land Revision Act of 1891.
- He modernized the Navy and conducted an aggressive foreign policy.
- Harrison favored federal education funding as well as voting rights for African Americans.
